Do you dream of understanding what is happening in China and how the country relates to the rest of the world? Then China Studies might be just the thing for you!

Our bachelor's degree program equips you with the tools to analyze and discuss China's society, history, and culture. You'll delve into topics such as Chinese politics, media, urbanization, pop culture, gender, ethnic minorities, climate, and technology. There's also plenty of room to explore topics that interest you most. You'll be introduced to both humanities and social science theories, as well as scientific methods and digital tools.

Knowledge of the Chinese language is of course essential. Therefore, the education also includes instruction in speaking, reading and writing Standard Chinese (Mandarin), so that you can read Chinese texts and have conversations about everyday topics. The language instruction is often provided by Chinese teachers.

From the very beginning of the program, you will have the opportunity to work with different types of Chinese materials such as news, social media, political speeches and documents, documentaries, TV series and novels. You will learn to use various digital tools that help you analyze and understand these materials.

Through the Chinese Studies program, you will gain an in-depth understanding of China and the Chinese language. This will open up a whole new world for you, one that you can approach critically and in a qualified manner.

Does this sound exciting? Then China Studies might be your next big challenge!

Fourth semester in China
The 4th semester teaching is outsourced to Peking University  (PKU) in Beijing. This means that all students receive instruction in China, unless special circumstances apply. The stay gives you the opportunity to improve your language level and intercultural skills, and you get a first-hand insight into modern Chinese city life. Watch the video below about the stay in China made by students in China, spring 2023.

Career opportunities
With a bachelor's degree in China Studies, it is an obvious choice to continue your studies on a master's degree in Global Area Studies, European Studies or International Studies. The programmes will enable you to utilise your expert knowledge of China and your language skills in a complex world. They can provide you with job opportunities in companies, organisations and institutions, where you can work in areas such as communication, HR, sales, project management, politics, intelligence services or act as a bridge builder between different cultures. You can also choose the B-line in Global Area Studies, which gives you job opportunities as a Chinese language teacher in secondary education or at university.
