With one of the world's youngest populations, a growing middle class and strong economic growth, South Asia is a region with enormous economic potential. With India and South Asia as a starting point, students develop their cross-cultural competences through the use of anthropological frameworks and other relevant social sciences. They acquire extensive knowledge of India and South Asia and the social, cultural, political and economic conditions of the region, as well as the diverse – and changing – daily patterns in the area. Although the degree focuses on India, it also addresses regional similarities and social and political conditions in countries such as Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Students also learn to speak, read and write Hindi, which is the most widely spoken language in South Asia. Prior knowledge of Hindi is not a requirement.
