The Bachelor's degree in English is initially based on language teaching, teaching of social relations and history, and teaching of literature. Later in the program, you can choose a direction based on your interests, and you have good opportunities to go on an exchange in an English-speaking country, or do an internship in an English-speaking country during the master's program.

English in English
The Bachelor's degree in English is taught in English. English-language literature is a large part of the program, and you will work with the first English-language texts, classic works from Dickens and Shakespeare, and modern texts from the English and American literary scene. The language teaching is done in a group-based manner, where you transcribe texts, give presentations to your fellow students, and delve into the structure and history of the language.
The English-speaking world
You will primarily work with the historical, cultural and social conditions in Great Britain and North America. You will learn about the rise and fall of the British Empire, American foreign policy in the 20th century, and contemporary British and American society. You will also learn about mass media and the culture of the English-speaking world today.
Career opportunities
Most Bachelor's degree holders in English continue their studies on a Master's degree in English. This is a direct extension of the Bachelor's degree and provides job opportunities in areas such as secondary school teaching, tourism, cultural exchange and translation. You can also continue your studies on other relevant Master's degree programmes.
