The Bachelor's degree in Art History is about art and visual expression in everything from ancient statues to today's commercials. We live in a culture where the visual is increasingly important. Our physical and virtual spaces are packed with visual signals, and we consume and share endless amounts of images on the internet. If you want to learn to decode visual phenomena and understand how the gaze has been staged in art and visual culture over time, art history is for you. In art history, we combine the desire to see with culturally critical analysis, so that the art of the past can be understood in light of the present and vice versa.

From late Gothic to selfies In the Bachelor's degree program in Art History, you will be taught by some of the country's most talented researchers and theorists, who will introduce you to the latest research in art and visual culture. The topics, both historical and contemporary, include painting, graphics, architecture, design, sculpture, street art, performance, bio art, digital art, photography, video, advertising and visual culture on social media. You will work with image analysis, cultural history, religion, aesthetic theory, history of ideas, gender theory, neuroaesthetics, media and technology philosophy perspectives. In addition, we reflect on how art is staged and communicated in museums and other cultural institutions.

Everyday life at Art History The teaching on the Bachelor's degree in Art History alternates between lectures, group work, practice sessions and excursions to exhibitions and museums. The subject aims to sharpen your analytical skills based on a comprehensive knowledge of art and visual culture. At the Bachelor's level, theoretical insight is deepened through practical exercises and projects, often carried out in art museums, in urban spaces or at private companies.

Career opportunities With a bachelor's degree in Art History, you can continue your studies in a number of master's degree programs, such as the master's degree program in Art History. The program qualifies you for many different types of jobs, such as in art museums, galleries and auction houses in Denmark and abroad, teaching at upper secondary schools and university colleges, and research in art and visual culture. Your ability to understand and use images and your written skills also open up job opportunities in communication. Graduates from Art History have also been employed as cultural consultants, project managers, fund advisors and cultural journalists.
