In the Bachelor's degree program in History, you work with the development that people and society have undergone from the earliest times to the present day. You examine the social, economic, ideological, political and cultural conditions in Denmark and the rest of the world from a historical perspective.

We understand the present by studying the past. Understanding the past is the most important mirror we use when we are to understand ourselves and the world around us. Knowledge of the past provides depth and overview: we look beyond the current agenda and put things into perspective. History does not provide definitive answers; but it does mean an ongoing dialogue about why the world looks the way it does and why we have become who we are.
Everyday life at History
The teaching in the Bachelor's degree programme in History is largely based on teaching in small groups, where you give presentations, participate in discussions and work with your study group. In addition, some teaching also takes place as lectures. You learn to research a topic in depth, and you learn to systematically find information and literature and critically evaluate your sources. You learn to organize research and communicate the results in writing and orally. You are also taught how to use relevant digital methods and tools.
Understanding the past today
History gives you an overview of significant developments and central issues in world history, such as state formations, ideologies, nationalism, political systems and changes, cultural encounters, conquests, war and peace. You will also gain specialized knowledge about periods of history, such as the ancient world, Europe in the Middle Ages or Denmark during the Cold War. You will discover that the study of history, rather than providing certain answers, constantly raises new questions about the legacy that the past has left us.
Career opportunities
With a bachelor's degree in History, you can continue your studies on a number of master's degrees. For example, the master's degree in History, which gives you the skills to work in a number of different jobs. As a historian, your skills can be used in administrative and management positions within both the public and private labor markets. You can also work as a teacher in high school, at seminars and colleges, or with dissemination at museums, cultural institutions or as a communication and information officer in both private and public workplaces.
